^{MERCED SUN-STAR KITE CONTEST RULES}

^{Contest Rules:}

^{1. Only newsprint published by the Merced Sun-Star may be used for making sail (body) of kite.}

^{2. Any style or size of kite may be made.}

^{3. Kite to be made and flown by person entering contest.}

^{4. Contestant shall provide own materials for contest.}

^{5. Maximum length of flying line 100 ft.}

^{6. Kites will be judged on:}

^{Craftsmanship (how kite is constructed and neatness) 
Visual (artistic appearance and design of kite)
Flight Stability (how well the kite fly’s)} 

^{7. Competition in three age groups: (Prizes for 1st, 2nd & 3rd in each group)}

^{Ages 6 to 9
Ages 10 to15
Ages 16 +}

^{8. If there are less than three (3) entries in an age group, that group will be combined with adjoining group.}

^{9. Total number of competitors will be limited to fifty (50).} 

^{10. To register call 209-722-1511 or in person at Merced Sun-Star 3033 North G Street Merced, Ca.} 

^{11. Registration deadline will be} 5pm March 24, 2006.

^{12. All kites must be turned in at judging area between 8:00am & 10:00am the day of contest. (Contestants may drop off kite for Craftsmanship & Visual judging but must be present to fly kite for Flight judging)} 

^{13. Contest will be held at Merced Junior College’s practice football field on March 25, 2006. Craftsmanship and Visual 10:30am (Contestants do not need to be present) Flight Judging 12 noon. (Contestants must be present to fly kite)}
